What is Project Management?
In order to define project management, first of all, it is necessary to understand what a PROJECT is. To make it short, it is…
|
It couldn’t be simpler. Therefore, project management is the method by which a project is planned, monitored, controlled and maintained up to date. Doesn’t it remind you of the Deming Wheel and the “PDCA” concepts?
Well… That’s the approach we can observe in “Agile” projects, not necessarily in all project methodologies… And you’ve probably heard about “Water-fall”, the well-named with its unglamorous success rate of 11 to 33% (see the Standish Group reports).
The Project Manager role is assigned to the person in charge of supervising the project. He is the pilot fish who build a plan that meets the sponsor’s and future beneficiaries expectations. In addition, he defines the project outlines and (sometimes) recruits the team. Finally, as a good project manager, he watches like a hawk the proper execution of the project, to produce a qualitative and exploitable product.
So, the projects having a start, a middle and an end: they go through a sequential process made up of phases. Moreover, they are more or less defined according to the business and the maturity level of the organisation. In fact, each market standard (PMI, PRINCE2…) focuses on defining project management with stages. In fact, here are the five main phases found in almost all project methods: inception, planning, implementation, testing and closure.
The PMBundle team has defined and been using its own project management Framework for years. This easy-to-use approach is highly effective, with 80% success rate, according to our experience. It is the cornerstone of our website. And, we will progressively make you discover its content through the blog’s posts.
